Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon signed an executive order declaring a State of Emergency in Missouri as of Monday.
In the order, Nixon activated the Missouri National Guard to support law enforcement in case of unrest following the grand jury’s decision.
Nixon also directed the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the St. Louis County Police Department and St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department to operate as a Unified Command to protect civil rights and ensure public safety in the City of Ferguson and St. Louis region.
The St. Louis County Police Department will have command over security in the City of Ferguson relating to protests and civil disobedience and “conduct otherwise arising from such activities.” Nixon also authorized the Unified Command to exercise operational authority in other jurisdictions as necessary.
