Principal Tom Lopez has gotten countless complaints from angry parents, who think saying the Pledge in any language other than English is unpatriotic.

Principal Lopez, however, is a stubborn one. He has stood by his decision, and continues to assert that he is not pushing an Islamic agenda at the school.

He said, “These students love this country. They were not being un-American in trying to do this. They believed they were accentuating the meaning of the words as spoken regularly in English.”

Louisiana State Senator Elbert Guillory has produced a video to his constituents, explaining why he switched parties from Democrat to Republican. This made him the first black Republican state senator in Louisiana since Reconstruction.

To reiterate my earlier reservations, I’m not a big fan of party switchers. Party affiliation is a big deal, something voters take into account when casting their ballots. Switching parties in the middle of a term has never seemed entirely fair to me.

Having said that, I thought Guillory’s speech at the time of his party switch was excellent, and this video is even better. The gentleman from Louisiana is playing my tune when he says, “At the heart of liberalism is the idea that only a great and powerful Big Government can be the benefactor of social justice for all Americans. But the Left is concerned with one thing: control. And they disguise this control as charity.”

Conservative activists are planning to storm Capitol Hill on Wednesday for what they are predicting will be “the largest Tea Party protest since 2010.”

The protest — drawing tea partiers like TV host Glenn Beck and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul — is in response to the Internal Revenue Service’s recent admission that it has been specifically targeting conservative groups for extra scrutiny.

The gathering on the West Lawn of the Capitol is being called the “Audit the IRS” Rally.

Continuing a decades-long downward trend, fewer than one-fourth of Americans have confidence in newspapers, according to a recent Gallup poll.

The percentage of Americans saying they have “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in newspapers dropped to 23 percent this year from 25 percent last year, according to a report on the poll, which was released Monday.

American confidence in newspapers reached its peak at 51 percent in 1979, and a low of 22 percent in 2008.

But newspapers don’t stand alone. Confidence in television news has also been slipping — it’s tied with newspapers this year at 23 percent, which is slightly up from last year’s all-time low of 21 percent. Newspapers and television news rank near the bottom of a list of 16 “societal institutions,” according to the report. The only institutions television news and newspapers beat out this year are big business, organized labor, health maintenance organizations and Congress. Americans expressed the most confidence in the military, at 76 percent, and small businesses, at 65 percent.

The IRS may have utilized surveillance data collected by the National Security Agency to harass political opponents of the Obama administration, including the tea party, charged NSA whistleblower William Binney in a radio interview.

After working in the intelligence community for more than 30 years, Binney retired from the NSA in 2001. He co-founded a unit on automating NSA signals intelligence and served as technical leader for NSA intelligence in 2001. Binney is credited with helping to modernize the NSA’s worldwide eavesdropping network.

Asked on Aaron Klein’s WABC radio show Sunday whether he believes data collected on millions of Americans was used by the government against political enemies, Binney replied in the affirmative.

“That’s exactly the danger about letting the government have all this kind of information about its citizens,” the ex-NSA official stated.

South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham slammed Obama’s foreign policies on David Gregory’s Meet the Press.

Graham said, “It seems to me ‘not being Bush’ is our foreign policy. The goal should be to basically make sure Assad leaves. Last year, Assad was isolated, he had very few friends, he was hanging by a thread. This year he’s entrenched with Hezbollah, Iran, and Russia, stronger behind him than ever. I think our goal should be, in the short term, to balance the military power, and providing small arms won’t do it. So we need to create a no-fly zone to neutralize Assad’s airpower. Syria has become a powder keg for the region. Our policies are not working, and AK-47s will not neutralize the advantage Assad has over the rebels.”

A pro-family spokesman says the recent revelation that the FBI is no longer conducting surveillance of mosques is just another indication that the Obama administration has given Islam “most-favored status” among religions.

Investor’s Business Daily recently reported that since October 2011, mosques have been off-limits to the FBI, with no more surveillance or undercover sting operations allowed without high-level approval from a special oversight body at the Justice Department dubbed the “Sensitive Operations Review Committee.” The panel was reportedly set up following complaints from Muslims about sting operations conducted by the FBI, which proved very effective in disrupting dozens of Islamic terror plots.

In an earlier interview with OneNewsNow, Laurie Cardoza-Moore with Proclaiming Justice to the Nations implied President Obama – through his actions and his policies – demonstrates a decided favoritism toward the Islamic faith and its adherents. Students at George Mason University (GMU) signed a petition early this month asking President Obama to listen in on the “private conversations” of all Fox News employees and their families.

The petition, which was circulated on GMU’s flagship campus in Fairfax, Va, near Washington D.C., by Media Research Center video reporter Dan Joseph, described the right-leaning news channel as “a threat to media integrity and an informed populace.”

“We want the to be able to legally read their private e-mails and listen in on phone conversations between Fox News employees and their associates and their families,” Joseph explained to students, asking for their support.

Though most Americans go through their day thinking everything is now returning to normal, the fact of the matter is the situation is anything but stable.

With crime rates skyrocketing, home prices dropping to under $500 for a house, and the local government out of solutions, the city of Detroit is the latest to join the likes of Stockton, California, having just defaulted on its loans from creditors.

Despite promises to the contrary, it should come as no surprise that the city is unable to meet its obligations. And it won’t be the last. City and state governments all over America are in the same boat.

This is a serious occurrence, and one that will not only destroy the financial bottom line of lenders and wipe out retirement promises for tens of thousands of current and former employees, but may well foreshadow events to come throughout the rest of the United States in the near future:
