In 2013, California passed a law which ordered schools to allow students to use bathrooms which match the gender with which they identify, rather than their biological gender. In response, many schools began installing gender-neutral bathrooms.
One elementary school in California is taking that a step further. Miraloma Elementary School in San Francisco is completely eliminating boys’ and girls’ restrooms in favor of making them all gender-neutral.
Principal Sam Bass said this on the school’s website:
“Not only do we want ALL of our students to feel safe, supported, and comfortable to be who they are, we want them to understand systematic equality for everyone. We are teaching them a valuable lesson.”
