Senate Dems Seek to Double Passenger Fees to Pay for More TSA

The Senate Appropriations Committee on Tuesday moved forward with legislation to increase airline passenger security fees, beating back a GOP attempt to keep them at current levels.

The 2013 Homeland Security appropriations bill would increase one-way fees for passengers from $2.50 to $5 in order to close a budget shortfall at the Transportation Security Administration.

Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) said the $315 million in funding would otherwise come from taxpayers and argued it is better to stick passengers who rely on TSA with the bill.

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) and Sen. Dan Coats (R-Ind.) sponsored an amendment to strip out the fee increase and offset the loss of revenue with cuts to state and local grants, emergency food and shelter funding, and dropping $89 million in funding for a new highway interchange leading to the Homeland Security’s new headquarters in southeast Washington, D.C. Hutchison noted that the Senate had decided not to increase the fees in the recent Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization bill.

Private screeners have proved themselves to be more efficient and cost effective than having fed TSA screeners.
But hey…. dems must at any cost keep union employees employed and happy, and to hell with the debt.

Better Idea reduce the TSA and go to the Israeli method of security.

Agree!  And $89 million for a interchange for a new TSA building?  Why a new building?  There’s vacant government buildings all over the USA.  Just ask the GSA (If they can pull their head out of you know where).  How about closing the Department of Poor Education (teachers union headquarters)?  Maybe a big circus tent would be more appropriate.

More Government Spending, coupled with hope from Demoncraps for more votes. Cheers Semper Fi

Read the article………..this money will come from the American public by way of an increase in airline ticket prices!! That of course is even more insulting!

Why should the American taxpayer paid the salary Of Obama’s Private Army. Homeland security and the TSA are nothing but a private paramilitary organization answering only to the executive branch. In essence it’s Obama is private army. He said he was going to do it and he took office and he has. Now what need when a president have for his own army answering only to him. Think about it!

  7. Dingbat36 says:

Oh, I see, we are to pay more by an attachment to our ticket price in order to allow more groping and indignities by a bunch of incompetent people who have never caught anyone for anything!

    The TSA is a joke…..
I just flew last week and OMG I used 1 gallon plastic bags! I had the “opportunity” to be scanned; groped and then I received a lecture on how I should have used 1 quart bags after the TSA agent removed all of myitems from the suitcase and every item in the plastic bags! I am 63 years old and can barely walk….but I feel sooo much safer!!!
Had a “hole” in my tongue because I did not want to be on the news as a “terroists”!!!!

As a frequent flyer, its worth to pay a few extra bucks from getting blown up in mid air.

  13. Eosbun says:

    Boycott the airlines.

  14. ajfrench says:

This is a back door run around the law to raise a national police force, or otherwise known as Gestapo. Obama has desired this since the beginning of his presidency. If they manage to pass this, boycott all airlines to force them to reject this. Make it economically unreadable. I guarantee you that not one of the extra guards will be placed in the airports.

This man thinks he’s too smart for the American public. I have news for you and your cronies; you’re not too smart for maggots.

WHAT?!!  That’s it!  I’m not flying ever again until they disband the TSA!!  They’re a bunch of perverted molesters, all wanting to get their paws on people and feel them up!!  I hope that someone has the guts to punch them all out, those bastards!!
