Romney Urged Obama to Adopt the Individual Health-Care Mandate

At BuzzFeed, Andrew Kaczynski breaks the news that, in a 2009 op-ed for USAToday, Mitt Romney encouraged President Obama that he’d be well-served by adopting elements of the Massachusetts Romneycare plan, particularly the individual mandate. [Hat tip, Erick Erickson at Red State.]

In the context of urging on the president “the lessons we learned in Massachusetts” that “could help Washington find” a better way to reform health care, Governor Romney explained, “We established incentives for those who were uninsured to buy insurance. Using tax penalties, as we did, or tax credits, as others have proposed, encourages ‘free riders’ to take responsibility for themselves, rather than pass their medical costs on others.”

This seems very significant. A number of us have expressed concerns that Romney cannot effectively confront Obama on Obamacare, the wrongheadedness and unpopularity of which make it the Republicans’ most crucial issue in the campaign. In response, Romney posits that he is a Tenth Amendment guy who saw what he was doing as right for his state, and perhaps other states, but certainly not a national model to be adopted at the federal level. For what it’s worth,

Dave has never met me & yet he says my picture was taken 35 years ago…
How could he possible know??? He can't. Dave is a servant & child of his
father satan. He goes from website to website pushing his fathers agenda.
I'm wondering if Dave is suffering from AIDS. How dumb is Dave?
Names are supposed to start with a capital letter & yet he starts his name
with a lower case letter. Must be that great education he received in
        San Francisco.

We are in BIG trouble if this guy ends up being our nominee. Win OR lose…it will be a train wreck.

Gee, another Mass liberal that was for it before he was against it. This one has an R after his name. He was also for gay marriage before he was against it, for liberal judicial appointments before he was against them, and on and on.

As a business man, Romney always knew that a single payer universal health care system made a lot of sense to reduce cost and give overal better health care to the whole population. As a politician he is now realizing that thils works against the Republican Ideaology because it takes the health care business monopoly away from the high roller political contributors to the Republlican party. The Republican propaganda machine were able to convince many poorer and religious TP and freeloaders Republicans that it is uncontitutional to mandate every body to pay in to the Insurance pool. The republican controlled supreme court will decide this fall.

I guess that the wind changed and so did Willard Romney. He has been pro-abortion, pro-gay, pro-muslim and anti-gun. Of course he switches sides when the votes are greener on the other side. When he loses the nomination the only two professions he will be able to work will be snake-oil and used cars

Romney will be no different than Obama as President.

He will back away from his "promise" to repeal ObamaCare.

He will keep the tax code that enriches the wealthy on the backs of the middle class.

He will bailout the same Wall Street banks when they come calling again because these people are his top campaign contributors. These same banks, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, Bank of America, Barclays, JP Morgan Chase are all corporate members of the Council on Foreign Relations, the elites who run our government and tell Congress what to do.

He will never push for full transparency and accountability to the American taxpaying public via a full audit of the money masters, private banking cartel called the Federal Reserve.

He will not cut down the size of the massive federal government and, thus, its insane spending.

He will keep us fighting in bankrupting undeclared, unconstitutional, never-ending wars that make a lot of defense contractors and big banks a ton of money …. while pushing this country further into a nightmare of our very toxic national debt. 4 TRILLION for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He will force the American people to forego their own hard-earned entitlement to Social Security, Medicare by declaring that we cannot afford to pay for these programs anymore, while leaving the gigantic defense budget (more than all the countries put together) virtually untouched.

His rhetoric about growing our way out of this economic mess, with our country now at a GDP to Debt Ratio of over 100% just like Greece, will simply fade away as his gullible supporters finally realize that his "59 Point" economic plan will do nothing to fix things … because it can't, because we simply cannot "grow our way" out this gigantic national debt approaching 16 Trillion, coupled with our entitlement program liabilities and obligations of well over 100 Trillion. In order to grow our way out of this mess, we would have to have sustained GDP rates approaching that of China, or just under 9%.

Mitt Willard Romney will work for the 1% that he is a part of and the 1% that paid to put him in office. They will be expecting to collect on their investment, under all scenarios, which the middle class will pay for.

If we don't get rid of the Federal Reserve They will get rid of America, Romney or Obama will help them.

  8. ricbee says:

It would actually be worse if he beat Obama because that would restore some credibility to the GOOP.

  9. SEAN MURRY says:

i wont vote for romney too much like obummer.

  10. Jonathan Gartner says:

Of course Willard will put the yoke on the middle class look at the over 700 million + dollars he had to raise in Tax a Mass to balance the budget. It is interesting to note that he always says he balanced the budget in Mass while not telling us he had not choice by Mass Constitution to do so. I would agree with most of your statements except for the military that is where you get no traction with me or the majority of the American People.

  11. OGMudbone says:

I wonder if Ted Nugent knew this before he endorsed Romney ?

  12. golda says:

There is only one difference between Romney and Obama. One is black, one is white. Everything else is the same!!!
