Hobby Lobby May Close All 500+ Stores in 41 States

When my family and I started our company 40 years ago, we were working out of a garage on a $600 bank loan, assembling miniature picture frames. Our first retail store wasn’t much bigger than most people’s living rooms, but we had faith that we would succeed if we lived and worked according to God’s word.

From there, Hobby Lobby has become one of the nation’s largest arts and crafts retailers, with more than 500 locations in 41 states. Our children grew up into fine business leaders, and today we run Hobby Lobby together, as a family.

We’re Christians, and we run our business on Christian principles. I’ve always said that the first two goals of our business are (1) to run our business in harmony with God’s laws, and (2) to focus on people more than money. And that’s what we’ve tried to do.

PLEASE HOBBY LOBBY DO NOT CLOSE DOWN…….FIGHT EVEN HARDER FOR YOUR PRINCIPLES ………JOAN

I agree. Do NOT close. I now shop for artist and framing items from Hobby Lobby. The country is almost destroyed by this communist muslim using nazi tactics. I have tried to encourage people with “consititution, conservative, Christian” to no avail. For the apathetic, ignorant, lazy, communist, islamists, atheist even family: mother, daughter, wife, son, etc. do not arouse any concern. For this government and this kind of traitor there is no hope. I am not so generous as some. I see them as enemies to America, freedom, the future who want to kill us with no mercy. If I see a 12 year old with a bomb I will shoot him with no regret. If God decides to accept him into heaven or reject him to hell, that is God’s business. I personally don’t think God intends for his people to lay their lives down, give up, a commit political or social suicide. If Christians don’t fight like David, Joshua and other great Christians will be no more, and churches will be rubble as the mosques rise up everywhere. Forget jobs, healthcare, education, immigration which are immportant. But if Christianity is blotted out and all Christians are murdered these other issues are a mute point. I would rather die defending than giving up.

I would think anti abortion advocates would love to provide contraception to help prevent abortion. Read the facts Hobby Lobby.

I will surely miss you boy I understand, principals first

  6. Grampa says:

The problem is that when you form a corporation the government gets to regulate it with laws it is no longer a personal business. If they would have kept it as a personal business they couldn’t do anything.
    Grampa

    • Steven says:

That is NOT true. Obamacare applies to SOLE PROPRIETORSHIPS as much as to corporations. It (obamacare) is wrong in ALL cases.

    • Chuck says:

Are you serious? It makes no difference whether it is a personal or Corporate Business. Everybody has to purchase Health Care under the Regulations or pay a penalty. Actually it would be cheaper for Hobby Lobby to pay the penalty than buy Health Insurance for their employees. They could just pay the penalty and let their employees purchase the more expensive Health Insurance on the open market on their own since it is Mandatory or pay a penalty. Of course, they will also lose their jobs if Hobby Lobby closes its doors. Nobody is forced to work there and if they don’t like their policies then they can get another job. How many people were sucked in by making these pills mandatory when any woman that lives in a town where there are Clinics can get them free or pay a grand sum of $12.00 a month if they don’t have acess to a Clinic. People need to wake up.

    • Jsmith says:

By what authority? We are grossly over-regulated by a government that has no authority to pass 90% of the laws passed by Congress and ALL of the rules passed by government offices. There is no question in my mind that the government has no right to pass a law forcing people to violate their religious beliefs OR to force anyone to purchase healthcare. The SCOTUS got it wrong, as they have many times before (Dred Scott anyone?).

I also feel Hobby Lobby should not close but they need to do what they need to do to uphold their beliefs. Whatever they do, I support them and pray for them.

I guess many now know why I resigned from the USN on 4 July 1978 – after 8.5 years commissioned service active – 4.5 as a LCDR
And why I retired 31 Aug 2003 after having paid 35+ years of Maximum SS/FICA – because I could, and no longer had to put up with FOOLS!!!!
Have Not paid FICA since; only $199. in property taxes in the US since 2004, and NO income taxes since 2007.
The USA is History mis amigos!

  8. Brad Burt says:

The whole of Psalm 37 deals with this situation. Christians, read it a believe it. Man plans evil and God laughs…..

Here you go…Psalm 37…just the first few verses puts to rest what happens to those who seem to have so much power in this world. Consider what happened to the great leaders of the past? Where are they now?

1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

4 Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.

10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

12 The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.

13 The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.

14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.

15 Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.

16 A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.

17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the Lord upholdeth the righteous.

18 The Lord knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.

19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.

21 The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth.

22 For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.

23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.

25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

26 He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.

27 Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.

28 For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.

30 The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.

31 The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.

32 The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.

33 The Lord will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.

34 Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.

35 I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree.

36 Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.

37 Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.

38 But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.

39 But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble.

40 And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.

I like Pslam 83. Check it out.

    • taffytee says:

Brad Burt: I absolutely LOVE that Psalm and pray it gives hope to all Americans who try to live in God’s will, as has the owners of Hobby Lobby have. We ALL have an obligation to call evil “evil” and try to stop it: here we can with our vote, I think. But getting Christians and others to vote wisely is the answer. I think at this stage God is all we have to combat the evil of the Obama administration. I pray almost hourly for wisdom and courage to do what God wants me to do. I hope you all do the same. “All things are possible through Christ”.

  9. Gary says:

Short of closing all their stores there is a way around all of these Rules & Regulations.#1, close all stores for one day and Fire all employees,#2 re-open and re-hire as Cash {day workers},no Taxes, No Health Insurance and give everyone a 1099 Tax form so the will Actually know exactly how much electing Stupid and Corrupt Government cost.

    • Kathy says:

That is exactly what we did in our business. One year of full time employees then this obamacare… We love our business and work hard, however due to the tax laws and the upcoming ACA threat we laid everyone off in December and decided to back up and punt. What we came up with is Day Laborers. It is now the third week in Feb. & it looks like our business will survive & grow. People are earning money & paying their own taxes… They get disgruntled they don’t have to work for us. As simply as that. Maybe the American employee will understand what a corporation/small business endures and will start backing the employers against the nation to fix our Government. From the ground up! (Hobby Lobby~ We built our business with Jesus as our business partner, We stand by you!)

    • jR says:

I doubt these people will do that as it would hurt their employees too much. It is good to see someone standing on principles. Government needs to be knee-capped by some giant org, and business will be hurt nationwide if they stand for religious principles. It may not happen for some time, but there will come a time for people in the government to pay for what they have done and the sinful way they are running this country.

    • Chuck says:

All they have to do is pay a penalty which is a lot cheaper then providing Health Insurance for their employees. Let their employees then purchase the more expensive Health Insurance on the open market or pay a penalty.

Not sure what you mean by corrupt politicians. Not one Republican in the House or Senate voted for Obama CARE and Nancy said “you have to pass it to read it” and not only was she re-elected but the Senate is still controlled by the Democrats who have refused to allow a vote on 45 pieces of major Legislation passed by the House controlled by the Republicans. The Majority of Voters are getting what they voted for and it is too bad the rest of us have to suffer because most of the Majority know more about Justin Beiber than their person in Congress. This is your Future.

  10. BetsyB says:

John Galt: like Catholic orphanages that have to close, because they won’t adopt children out to homosexual couples….like photographers or bakers driven out of business, because they spend all their money fighting lawsuits from homosexuals demanding they participate in their religious rite/ wedding…like small companies that can’t afford Obamacare or the ones that’ll go out of business once the forced minimum wage hike hits their payrolls.

It’s getting harder for fair and honest people to do business in this increasingly corrupt and unethical world of thugs, bullies, and druggies. Soon, business deals will be impossible, because no one’ll be able to trust signed contracts or laws, and regulations strangle out profits. If your religious rights are being taken away, what are you to do?…compromise them? If you can’t protect your rights via elections or the courts and the law, then you MAY need to leave the oppressive system/country. Come out from among them.

  11. Mr. Modern says:

Who cares? Go ahead and close. The rest of us will be better off without your histrionic protests about your need to meddle in the lives of the people that work for you. Keep your convictions to yourself.

  12. Mary says:

I love Hobby Lobby better than all the craft stores. Don’t close because of one idiot who will be out of office, when a better leader will emerge.

  13. Mary says:

Please do not close. KEEP FIGHTING! We need stores like yours. We also need more people like you to be proud of Christian values! Don’t let people like our people in charge now disregard the principles our country was founded on CHRISTIAN VALUES! The people in this country support you.

  14. Johnnyappleseed says:

We as Americans that love our country, must gather at the ballot box in November to give the Democrats the baptism in fire they deserve.
These are not the Democrats I grew up with, these are secular progressives, that not only support the anti Christ but relish in doing it.
We must all get out the vote, get poll watchers to volunteer to make sure the crooked democrats can not stuff the ballot box with dead peoples votes.
” They who do not vote, will be ruled by fools and thieves” Cicero

  15. Dear Hobby Lobby: Thank you for standing your ground against this increasingly repressive anti-Christian Obama Government!!!!
