President Obama’s speech to the United Nations was a “great, big, warm, fuzzy blanket,” former ambassador John Bolton said.
It’s a perfect description for a speech in which Obama perpetuated his Administration’s lie that the attacks in Libya, Egypt and elsewhere were caused by an insipid YouTube video, then came out strongly in favor of tolerance.
Obama threw a bone — or more aptly pretended to throw a bone — to Americans who remember free speech:
“Americans have fought and died around the globe to protect the right of all people to express their views — even views that we profoundly disagree with.”
But then he turned around and condemned anyone who would dare to criticize Islam:
“The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam but to be credible those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see in the images of Jesus Christ that are desecrated or churches destroyed or the Holocaust that is denied.”
